OUR END-YEAR AND GRADUATION PARTY will be on Friday, June 2, beginning at 11:00 am, so please try to arrive by 10:45.  There is no school beforehand on that day.  We will be meeting in the Parish Hall:  the program will be in the Hauser Room and we will have the use of the Social Hall for a follow-up luncheon.  Families of the children are cordially invited.   —   The school will provide fried chicken, hot dogs, chips, and juice.  We ask that each family bring a salad, a vegetable or fruit dish, or a dessert to share so there will be plenty of food. Please let Kit know how many guests you plan to bring and what type of food you plan on sharing.  Our program will include a song presentation by the children, introduction of all the children and a brief address by one of our graduating parents.  PLEASE BE ON TIME!

OUR MOTHER’S DAY PROJECT was so much fun and resulted in such a beautiful product.  The children loved feeling the silk of the scarf, carefully placing the colorful tissue paper squares, folding the scarf, and spraying the whole thing with a vinegar/water solution to help transfer the color.

SOME PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES will be scheduled and/or re-scheduled during the first two weeks in June.  Kit will speak to each parent regarding the setting up of a mutually agreeable time for a conference.

SUMMER HOMEWORK REMINDERS FOR BRINGING MONTESSORI HOME:

ENABLE SELF-DISCOVERY.  Children love to discover things for themselves.  As a parent, your role is to help create the environment and provide the time for your child to find out for herself.  This kind of help can include:  asking leading questions, providing a few extra steps in an activity, or giving her time to discover and reflect on what she is seeing or experiencing.  With patience, you will enable your child’s sense of curiosity and joy of discovery to blossom into a love of life-long learning.

USE ENCOURAGEMENT, NOT REWARDS OR TREATS.  Have you ever offered your child a trade-off if he completed a task?  This is often tempting and can have a short-term effect.  But consider the message you are giving.  When you use external rewards to motivate your child, he learns that there is no intrinsic value to the activity, and the only reason to do it is for the reward.  Encouragement is all that is needed if a task is worth doing.  That is the reward that children appreciate and will learn from.

HUMANS ARE NATURAL EXPLOREERS.  We are born to explore our world and be inquisitive.  Our natural tendency to explore, if we use it, keeps our brain flexible and growing for all our lives.  DO SOMETHING NEW!!!  HAVE FUN WITH YOUR KIDS TOO!
